Meet Dr. David T. Wu
Dr. David T. Wu is a periodontist, a specialist in providing patients with healthy gums and replacing missing teeth. Dr. Wu is an expert in all aspects of periodontal treatment including the management of periodontal diseases, regeneration of soft and hard tissues, and placement of dental implants, all crucial in restoring optimal function and esthetics for his patients. He has advanced training in periodontal plastic surgery, bone reconstruction, implant dentistry, and digital dentistry. Dr. Wu received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from McGill University where he discovered his passion for the field of periodontics and regenerative medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Wu completed his specialty training. in Periodontology and Dental Implantology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he also obtained his Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) with honors at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Currently, Dr. Wu is a Faculty Member in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he teaches periodontology residents and dental students both clinically and didactically. Along his journey, he led outreach initiatives providing accessible oral healthcare and education to underserved communities both locally and globally.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Wu's research bridges dental medicine to bioengineering and focuses on developing new biomaterials and medical devices for oral tissue regeneration and drug delivery. His work resulted in over 30 publications in high-impact scientific journals. His commitment to innovation, education, and service, resulted in prestigious awards including the Balint Orban Memorial Award from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) recognizing excellence in research, the D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award, and the Educator Scholarship from the AAP Foundation for his contributions as an educator. For his service to Harvard University, Dr. Wu was awarded the Harvard Presidential Scholarship, the Joseph L. Henry Award, and the Outstanding Resident Teaching Award.
In his free time, Dr. Wu enjoys running, cycling, or rowing along the Charles River.
